Original Inspiration: A very old sketch I did as a character concept
thing long ago when I thought I might want to try my hand at making a comic
book.
-
Other Comments: Original concept sketch was based on a photo from an
old ad. Humorously, I've seen work by another artist on Deviant Art which
was apparently inspired by the same photo.

The original, really ugly Prismacolor pencil sketch
done on notebook paper, most likely during a gaming session. |

I'm thinking I must have
been nuts to go right from one painting (Prince of Thieves) which gave
me fits with the silk shirt, to another with not only a silky shirt, but
a silky vest, too. LOL |

The original pencil sketch
begins to be slowly obliterated by my color blocking. |

Woohoo! A big jump here! I
worked on this for the better part of a day while I was off for the weekend.
I added more detailing to the girl and her accessories. I also had a blast
and a half playing with filters and some of my own previously completed art
to come up with the weird pebble mosaic background. What's holding me up now
is the shading of the boy. This is going to be challenging. |

I did some messing with this piece
during The last part of November and the first week of December 2006 after
not touching it for a long time. The fourth progress image (on the left
here) shows where I finally started serious work on shading the boy's face.
The fifth progress image (to the left below) shows some tweaking of the
girl's hair and some extreme reworking of her face. I'm still not quite
happy with her facial features yet. Also on that image, you can see the
addition of the boy's tears and some further detailing work on his vest. You
might notice that vest pattern looks a little familiar. It's the same
pattern I use to make the backgrounds for my art site. LOL The image to the
right below is a close-up shot of the boy's face and vest. There is still a
LONG way to go on this. *sigh*

In this stage I did a lot more work
on shading the boy's body and trying to make sure things looked well
integrated. I did yet more texturing and tweaking on the girl's hair, too.
There is stil a lot of work to be done here and I hope to get back to it
soon. In the mean time, I'm tied up with my new job and getting things like
website updates and new store stuff in place.
