  • Original Inspiration: Hi, my name is Jolie and I'm a City of Heroes addict.... LMAO

  • Other Comments: Something else I don't do a lot of: comic style art. But I so love this character that I had to paint him. I decided I was seeing too few Latino heroes that weren't just white boys wearing awful pimp-daddy/wannabe gangsta/cholo stereotypes. So I came up with this hottie from El Salvador who could fly and blast things with energy. *grin* This portrait is of him in his original uniform. I've since gotten higher up in levels and updated the costume.

Whee! Weird, naked, bald DAZ Studio model! I'm kind of getting fond of these because, unlike looking at a photo model, I can sit and manipulate them to my heart's content to get the pose or expression I'm after. LOL I wanted the flight pose mapped out so I would have a reference to work from that didn't look awkward or overly staged.

I did a lot of work on this in the first round. The background seen here may or may not be the final one. It's just a stock photo I manipulated to get the idea of what was in my mind out. I may go back later and try to recreate some of the actual building designs from the game or something. I just don't know yet. This background actually works pretty well with him so far. This piece is another of those where I'm kind of trying to focus on getting some good shading on the musculature. I desperately need the practice at it. In the past I've cheated with baggy clothes and whatnot and it's time I stopped that and just worked on it!

The next session on this was really short, squeezed in among other things. I basically started refining some of the shading and highlights. I also wasn't happy with the black/white shading on his hair in the previous version. It looked too much like he had grey hair. He's supposed to be a young guy, so that wasn't working.  I switched it to a more classic comic book style black/blue shading.
