Phenomenal Women Of The Web

Gallery B: Sculpture

I used to do a lot of sculpting when I was in high school and college because I had access to things like premium Albanes white porcelain clay and a kiln to fire it in. These days I don't do a lot of it due to the fact that the local ceramics shops and universities charge a fortune for use of their kilns and then you run the risk of some hasty student project bursting an air bubble and ruining what you sent in for firing. I'm currently looking into alternatives such as air dry paper clay, air dry epoxies and baked polymer clays. I'm a little leery of using polymer clays in the home oven because both I and our ferrets have sensitive respiratory tracts and could probably do without the fumes. Maybe in the fall or winter, when I can open up the windows and let in some air, I might give it a shot.
