Original Inspiration: I was trying out doing an assignment for
someone doing a book, but couldn't get them to give me an acceptably worded
contract. The inspiration is demonic mythology. Aamon is a wolf-headed demon
with a snake's tail.

Other Comments: This is the first time I've tried doing a fully
monochrome image digitally. I've done plenty of monochromatic pencil and ink
work, so I took this as a challenge to see what I could to digitally.

The original rough layout sketch (done with my
Wacom Tablet) and some basic color blocking and texturing on the head. I had
it on a blue background for a while so I could make sure I didn't leave any
gaps that might mess up the shading and blending later.

Quite a jump between these two stages. I started
blending the head with the more human aspects of the torso and shading the
muscles. I wanted to pay particular attention to the shading on the
musculature as that tends to be a very weak aspect of my art in a lot of
cases.

I did a little more work here, moving on into the forearms and lower torso.
Thus far, I'm pretty happy with what's going on with the shading and
musculature. There's a decent distinction in texture between the fur and
skin. That was something else I was trying to convey. You'll note here that
I gave him a paw pad sort of arrangement in his palm. I thought it would be
a neat touch considering his animalistic nature.

Here the forward arm is more
complete and I've started on down towards the lower body. At this point, I
realized that the person (who was essentially just trying to scam free use
of artwork without any mention in the contract of the promises made in the
original query) was not going to change the verbiage of the contract to
anything near what I would have been comfortable with signing. So, rather
than kill myself trying to finish this piece during that very busy time of
year, I set it aside to finish at my leisure.
